Lithographic Printing, Litho, Print DesignLithographic Printing

Lithographic Printing is the traditional method for high volume printing, and still accounts for a 70% market share.

Technical Definition: A printing process in which the image to be printed is rendered on a flat surface, as on sheet zinc or aluminum, and treated to retain ink while the nonimage areas are treated to repel ink.

Whilst advances in digital printing continue apace, litho printing still has the edge in quality, and will usually be our preferred choice for medium to long print runs.

There is a increasing economy of scale using a lithographic printer, because most of the cost involves setting up the printing press. After that you are paying for paper and ink, so the costs incurred for 1000 copies may not be much more than those for 100 copies.
